wide smile edit

This is the wide smile photo before i edited it using photoshop.

This is the ride smile photo after i edited it using photoshop.
i coloured in the face using the brush tool then i enhanced the colour on the lips and eyes using the burn tool. once i had done this i extended the teeth, to to this i drew around the teeth with the magic lasso tool, right clicked then clicked layer via copy, then edit then transform . This put a checked square around the tooth which enabled me to change the shape to give the illusion of fangs.

kate moss double page spread

This is my double page spread.
I used in design and photo shop to create this.
When i was creating this is had to decide on the amount of columns that i wanted for the article. i decided on three columns, this is because i think that it looks professional, it also makes the DPS look like it has a higher socio economic target audience (B, C1/C2). I added drop caps to the start of every paragraph, this makes my DPS look more professional. I decided to use serif font for my article because it goes with my target audience. Serif font is harder to read meaning it is used in magazines with a higher target audience because they are usually more educated.

cross processing photos.

before:
This was the image before i uploaded it to photoshop.

after:
This was the completed image after i had minipulated the colours using the cross processing tools.

This is what i used to a just the colours on the image above. this tool allows you to choose from three different colours, red, green and blue. you need to drag the line into different curves and angels, this changes the colours, the further away you drag the line from its original point the deeper or more vibrant the colours get.

zoe before and after (healing brush)

this was the photo of Zoe before i used to healing brush tool.
This was the photo of Zoe after i had used the healing brush tool.  to do this i added the image to photo shop, then added a new layer before i edited the image.
1. i clicked on the healing brush tool
2. sample: all layers
3. zoom in the section of the image that you want to edit
4. click the clone stamp tool
5. alter the size depending on how big the default  is that you are wanting to change
6. you have to remain on the stamp tool to alter the size.
7. choose an area of the face near the spot but not on the spot.
8. click on the skin- the colour of the brush should change.
9. cover the spot with the tool.
10. repeat this process until you are happy with the outcome.

shutter speed

This is one of my shutter speed photos. The shutter speed setting on a camera allows you to catch a fast moving object e.g. a car moving at  a high speed, it also allows you to capture a fast moving object over a period of time. The image above is an example of this. Sophie is moving a torch in the shape of a love heart, I set the shutter speed at 6 seconds to take this photo, if I was going to improve on this I would set the shutter speed at 4 seconds to prevent the over lap of the light, it would make the image look neater and more professional. The background image was slightly blurred on all of the photos I took, I tired to change the focus but using the focus ring but it made the main image blurred to. Next time I take photos like these I will try and find a darker back ground so you can not see the background at all, therefore it will not matter if the back ground image is blurry. If I was going to improve on this image further I would zoom in on the light which was going to create the image. This would make the main image centre of attention (which was my original aim).

Your shutter speed entry

Discuss what shutter speeds do
Discuss why you would use a fast or slow shutter speed
Import  examples of your picture: discuss what shutter speed setting you set your camera too
Discuss the quality of the image and the problems that the image has (see below)
Discuss how would you would solve those problems
Discuss what your targets are for taking pictures the next time

Possible problems

Underexposed
Not enough light is getting into the camera because it is too dark
Solutions and targets
Retake the image at a slower shutter speed
Retake the image at a different time of day or in better lighting conditions
Increase the ISO speed of your camera

Poor framing
Hands cut off , heads missing, subjects too far away
Solutions and targets
Review images as and when you take them
Take your time when shooting
If your subject is moving take lots of shots
Use the continuous shoot mode
Get closer to your subject
Use a tripod

This is one of my composition photos. i used manual focus, i used the focus and zoom ring when taking this photo. I found it easy to use after i had taken a few practise shots. I decided to zoom in on this photo so that the picture included the scenery that i wanted.  Most of the images that i took were in focus, an odd few were not in focus because i forgot to adjust the focus ring.  if i was going to improve on my images i would try and take more from a range of distances. This is a long shot, when taking rule of thirds into consideration Sophie is made to look weak and venerable because she is in the middle-bottom section of the thirds. Sophie is being framed by the coffee car, which is being framed by the trees.

front cover and evaluation

This is my magazine cover. I went with a white and orange theme for my text and splashes; I did this because I think that this stands out against my darker background. The theme for this magazine was ‘music’ I don’t think my magazine fits this theme well, if I was to look at my magazine without reading the text I would say it looked more like a fashion magazine because of the nature of the photo and the colours used.
When creating my magazine I made a lot of alterations to the main image using photo shop, I added colour to the makeup and brightened the skin to give it a crisper fresh look. I think this makes the main image pop; it gives it more affect and a better finish.
I chose to use a mixture of serif and sans serif text to appeal to different audiences. The masthead is in sans serif and the sub heads are in serif, I think this makes my cover look different to opposing magazines.
If I was going to complete this task again I would try and make my magazine look more music orientated. This would fit the brief and the target audience. If I did re do my magazine cover I would try and use a brighter main image with black and red serif text in block capitals to give it more affect. I would also add more to the cover to make it look busy and more interesting, I think this would interest the target audience because they would think that they were getting more for there money.
If I was going to completely re-do my cover I would go for a completely different style, I would try to follow the brief more closely instead of adding to many of my own ideas without thinking about the out come, because as it stand the magazine cover shown above does not hit the target audience.

Photoshop:
When using Photoshop the tool I used most was the blending tool, I used this when I was darkening Sophie’s make up, I added colour and make sure that it blended to look natural with a slight enhancement. When blending I used the zoom tool a lot to see what my work looked like in full size and it allowed me to zoom in close to make sure the lips and eyes were neat and correct. When I started using Photoshop I found it difficult it add shapes and move them around, but when I got used to it I found it easier. I found it easier to use the blending tool as it is similar to what I had used before. I feel like my text was well controlled because it went were I wanted it to, the size, width and height went how I wanted it to and the font I chose went well with the cover. I did not cut out any images on my cover. I added a small drop shadow onto my masthead, I did this by highlighting the text and clicking fx, this gave me options to choose what I would like to do with my text. I did not download any fonts. I went for quite dark colours, browns and purples with bright orange splashes. To improve my front cover I think I would make it look more music orientated, I think my cover looks more like a fashion magazine, so If I was going to improve on my magazine I would change the layout and make it more for the target audience.

photography evaluation

Photography:
I used auto setting and manual focus when taking my photos, this was the first time I had used this type of camera and these camera settings.  I learnt that you could change the zoom by turning the camera lenses.  When taking the photos I had to use the ‘t-stance’ this is when you stand with one foot in front of the other holding the camera with two hands in front of your face. Taking a photo for a front cover is done better when done portrait, this makes the photo fit better. When taking my photos I made sure they were portrait, this prevented problems when I started to design my cover. The image that I chose to use was in focus but some of the first images that I took were not in focus, I think that this was because I did not get the hang of the camera until I had took a few photos.  When taking the photos I learnt that the lighting had a great affect on the out come of your photo, for example if you took a photo directly into the light the back ground would be very bright, and if you took the photo facing away from the light it would look quite shadowed, this is what I went for when I took my photo. Some of my photos were not well composed but the final photo I decided on looked good with the eye line as it looked quite dominant. I used tree bark as my back ground because it went with the colour scheme that I had chosen. Sophie was the subject of my photo and she was very help full, she did everything I asked and the overall out come of my photo was better than I could have asked for.

LIGHTING: this photo was taken
away from the light.
this photo was taken with the
light shining straight on to Sophie
this is why it is so much brighter
than the photo above.
